On 17 September, the Cantoblanco campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) will host a significant musical event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Festival of Iberian Peoples, originally held in 1976. This festival is regarded as a major cultural symbol of Spain's democratic transition.

In 1976, the UAM was the venue for an iconic cultural event that attracted thousands, representing a collective expression of the desire for freedom and plurality. Fifty years later, the festival, themed "Music unites us, a festival builds society," aims to remind attendees that democracy is cultivated through both education and music.

The concerts will commence at 12:00 noon in the rugby field area, where there will also be sports activities, food trucks, and dining spaces. More than 30 artists, including Aida Royes, Ángel Stanich, and Blanca Paloma, will perform throughout the day.

Tickets, which are available at reduced prices for students and members of the university community, can be purchased until 16 September or on the day of the event at campus ticket offices. Proceeds will be directed towards social engagement initiatives by the UAM's Office of Solidarity Action and Cooperation.

Additionally, an exhibition titled "50 Years of the Festival of Iberian Peoples 1976-2026" will be inaugurated at the Plaza Mayor, offering a visual journey through the festival's milestones. This exhibition will be accessible until December.

This event is part of a broader programme of cultural and academic activities that began in May, organised by the UAM in collaboration with the Commissioner for Spain in Freedom and El Corte Inglés.
