Tenerife hosts eighth tricontinental craft fair dedicated to Mexico

The Cabildo de Tenerife will host the eighth tricontinental craft fair from 24 October to 2 November at the Recinto Ferial, bringing together over 200 artisans from the Canary Islands, Europe, Africa, and America. This year, Mexico is the guest country, with a programme focused on traditional crafts, artisanal techniques, and cultural expressions from the participating regions.

Efraín Medina, the island's councillor for Employment, Training, and Education, emphasised the importance of this event as a space for knowledge sharing and showcasing the rich craftsmanship of various cultures. The fair will feature exhibition and commercial spaces alongside demonstrations of crafts, masterclasses, participatory workshops, professional meetings, and two artisanal fashion shows.

Activities will include knife-making, pottery, basket weaving, mask-making, embroidery, filigree, origami, and decorating alebrijes, led by master artisans from countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Chile, Portugal, and Turkey, as well as professionals from Tenerife. Family-friendly activities and culinary offerings showcasing flavours from different countries will also be available.

The Mexican culture will be prominently featured in the musical programme, which will kick off with the inaugural show 'Viva México', artistically directed by Juan Carlos Armas and musically directed by Mauro Fariña. Over the ten days, artists and groups including Óscar Encinoso, Lourdes Pérez, Gustavo Cabrera, Nayra Martín, and Cempasúchil will perform, alongside a tribute to Juan Gabriel by Rafa Rodríguez and a night dedicated to Venezuelan bagpipes.

The fair will conclude on 2 November with a performance by La Parranda Chasnera and aims to strengthen its role as an intercultural meeting point and showcase for promoting the crafts of various regions.
