The University of Alicante (UA) is set to hold a seminar titled “Travelling with the classics: Reinterpretation of Greco-Roman classics in contemporary theatre” on 2, 4, and 6 November. The sessions will be conducted by Argentine director, playwright, actor, and educator Edgardo Dib.
Taking place from 17:30 to 19:30 at the Mario Benedetti Ibero-American Literary Studies Centre (CeMaB), the seminar will explore the enduring relevance of classical texts and their potential for reinterpretation in today’s theatrical landscape. It aims to examine how contemporary theatre engages with Greco-Roman traditions, revisiting their works and characters while adapting their themes to new cultural and scenic contexts.
The event will feature presentations and discussions led by Beatriz Aracil Varón, director of CeMaB, and Laura Palomo Alepuz, a professor in the Department of Spanish Philology, General Linguistics, and Literary Theory at the University of Alicante.
Edgardo Dib is a distinguished Argentine theatre director, actor, playwright, and educator, boasting over 38 years of continuous experience in both national and international theatre circuits. Throughout his career, he has been recognised for his award-winning productions and adaptations of classical texts.
This initiative is organised by the Mario Benedetti Ibero-American Literary Studies Centre (CeMaB) in collaboration with the Department of Spanish Philology, General Linguistics, and Literary Theory, as well as the Master's in Literary Studies (MaEsL).
Those interested in attending in person must register in advance, as seating is limited to 30 participants. Registration can be completed via the form provided by the organisers. Additionally, the seminar will be available for live streaming through CeMaB's video platform.
