Lluèrnia festival to honour contributors of 15 editions

The Lluèrnia Festival, renowned for its celebration of fire and light, is set to take place on 6 and 7 November in Olot, Catalonia. This year's event will showcase approximately thirty installations spread throughout the city centre, including locations such as Plaça Catalunya, Plaça del Carme, Plaça de Braus, and the Firal.

This edition marks the fifteenth and final celebration of Lluèrnia, which will illuminate the streets of Olot once again. The festival will feature a selection of seven installations chosen from over fifty artistic proposals submitted for consideration.

Local educational institutions will play a significant role in the festival's activities. Schools from the Garrotxa region, including those for early childhood, primary, and secondary education, will present two installations at Firalet and the Grederes of Montsacopa Volcano. Additionally, architecture and design schools from across Catalonia, such as the Escola d'Art d'Olot and the Escola d'Art i Disseny de Terrassa, will occupy notable city spaces, including the cloister of Carme and the courtyard of the Old Hospital of Sant Jaume.

Collaborations with various entities will enhance the festival experience. The PFI/PTT La Garrotxa will assist in different areas, including installations and visitor support, while also showcasing student work. Aula Fusta will contribute with its own installation titled “El despertar de los volcanes,” located at the Firal.

This year, the Hort de la Llum will be curated by Anna Juárez and Pep Fargas, featuring an installation named “Todo un mundo” at the Hospicio, which aims to pay tribute to all those who have nurtured the festival over the years. The festival will also highlight the work of students from the Degree in Design at the University of Barcelona at Plaça Catalunya, alongside architecture students from the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura de Reus (URV) at Plaça de Can Joanetes.

Long-standing partnerships with local organisations such as AOAPIX and Pim Pam Pum Foc will continue this year, contributing to the festival's rich history. Cáritas Garrotxa will once again sell candles to raise funds for charitable causes.

In the lead-up to the festival, a series of activities will take place as part of La Fumarola, including an exhibition featuring images from the 2026 edition by Roc Fàbrega at Can Trincheria (4 to 15 November), the performance “La conferencia de los pájaros” by Insectotròpics at the Teatre Principal (6 November), and a concert by David Caño and Gisela Arimany in the gardens of Can Vayreda (6 November).

The festival will culminate on 7 November at 22:30 with a closing spectacle that honours all individuals and organisations that have contributed to Lluèrnia over the past fifteen years, as well as the citizens of Olot. Lluèrnia, Festival of Fire and Light, is organised by the Lluèrnia Cultural Association, with support from the Olot City Council and the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia. It is part of the Xarxa Transefímers and the Plataforma de Artes de Calle Association.
