The new market, 'La Plaza', is set to open on 7 November in Villanueva de la Serena, as announced by Mayor Ana Belén Fernández during a meeting with market operators on 19 October.
The transition from the current provisional market on Avenida de Chile will take place over the coming week, ensuring everything is ready for the launch. The new facility aims to provide not only high-quality products but also personalised service and a range of gastronomic offerings.
Mayor Fernández described the market as "much more than a market," highlighting its role as a cultural and social hub. In addition to shopping, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in various cultural, recreational, and festive activities designed to enliven the space.
She stated, "We have the building—a modern structure with all necessary services and a unique design that few towns possess. And we have the content, which is you. With your professionalism, quality products, and friendly service, we can make it even more attractive to a wider audience, establishing it as a benchmark for quality and good service."
The mayor anticipates that the opening will attract more visitors, generating activity not only within the market but also in the city centre. The hospitality sector is expected to follow, adding to the market's appeal.
Fernández emphasised the market's goal of becoming a space for community engagement, equipped with essential services such as a children's play area, breastfeeding room, exhibition space, and information point. The market will also operate in the afternoons.
Additionally, a new parking facility at Conventual 33 will significantly increase the number of available spaces in the coming months. The design of 'La Plaza' features a central access point that allows for an open and spacious environment, encouraging visitors to enter and enjoy the offerings in the heart of the city.
The name 'La Plaza' reflects the traditional term used by locals to refer to this marketplace.
