New government delegate meets with Madrid president following appointment

New government delegate meets with Madrid president following appointment

Pilar Trinidad was appointed as the government delegate in Madrid, succeeding Francisco Martín Aguirre, during the Council of Ministers meeting on 27 October. Today, Trinidad Núñez commenced her routine institutional meetings following her appointment, having previously served as the sub-delegate since December 2023.

Her first meeting took place at the Real Casa de Correos with the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the new Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Interior, Jorge Rodríguez Domingo. During the meeting, Trinidad shared details about the recent dismantling of the encampment at Puerta del Sol, emphasising that this intervention concludes a gradual process that began with the encampment on 26 September.

Throughout this period, the focus of the Madrid government delegation has been to ensure the peaceful exercise of fundamental rights, protect individuals and property, and restore the normal use of public space. Trinidad asserted that legal frameworks dictate that interventions in gatherings and demonstrations must be gradual and proportionate to the circumstances, with dissolution being a last resort.

In this context, the delegation prioritised dialogue, voluntary removal of encampment facilities, and specific measures to address identified risks. Trinidad defended that the delegation's actions since the encampment began have always adhered to legal standards, urging the Community of Madrid government to withdraw legal actions initiated against them, which she believes lack criminal grounds.
