The Municipal Archive of Alicante is hosting an exhibition to celebrate the publication of 500 issues of the Hoja del Lunes, which will be open to the public until 30 October. The city's Councillor for Culture, Nayma Beldjilali, visited the exhibition on Monday alongside Rosalía Mayor, president of the Association of Journalists of the Province of Alicante (APPA), and a group of professionals.
The Municipal Archive has preserved copies of the publication from 1941 to 1964 under the title Lunes (16 volumes), and from 1984 onwards under the title Hoja del Lunes (16 volumes). The exhibition features four of these volumes displayed in two showcases, showcasing interesting local news stories, such as a meeting between a journalist and a councillor in the early 20th century, who had gone to Monte Tossal early in the morning to ensure everything was in order, as well as a victory of the Hércules football club in the 1940s.
Mayor expressed her gratitude for the collaboration of the Councillor for Culture in remembering and promoting the 500 issues of Hoja del Lunes, highlighting the efforts of the archive's technicians in “preserving the memory of the city.” She noted that the first issue of Lunes was published on 20 January 1936 and continues to exist today in digital format.
