The Mercado de la Esperanza in Santander is hosting a series of workshops aimed at addressing the dietary needs of the coeliac population. Organised by the Santander City Council in collaboration with ACECAN (the Cantabria Coeliac Association), these workshops will be led by nutritionist Sara Tejerina and will continue until 4 February.
Álvaro Lavín, the city councillor responsible for the initiative, has encouraged residents to participate in these practical sessions to learn about gluten-free nutrition, clarify any doubts, and discover how to adapt their cooking to meet specific dietary requirements.
“La Cocina de la Plaza is a public space aimed at highlighting the quality of market products, local produce, and the advisory role of its merchants. This venue is perfect for disseminating knowledge on a crucial issue like coeliac disease,” Lavín stated.
The workshops are scheduled as follows:
- 12 November: Safe gluten-free shopping: a practical guide to Mercado de la Esperanza
- 19 November: Nutrition after diagnosis: key micronutrients in a gluten-free diet
- 28 November: Gluten-free nutrition for children: a workshop for ages 6-14
- 17 December: Gluten-free Christmas: from market to table
- 14 January: Weekly meal planning without gluten: from shopping to dining
- 28 January: Sports nutrition and coeliac disease
- 4 February: Does gluten-free mean healthy? Learn to make better choices
Additionally, the first session titled “Best practices for the safe sale of gluten-free products” took place on 29 October.
