The Francisco Llata municipal library in Liencres, part of the Piélagos Town Council, has opened registration for bibliotherapy workshops designed for seniors aged over 60. The sessions will take place on 5, 12, and 19 November.
Carmen Bedoya, the cultural councillor, highlighted that the three scheduled sessions— a reading club and discussion, a creative bookmark workshop, and literary card games— will all commence at 11:00 AM. These activities aim to encourage active ageing, stimulate memory and creativity, and enhance social participation through reading and cultural activities.
On 5 November, the first session will begin with a reading of an excerpt from the comic “Growing Old is a Drag,” followed by an engaging discussion where participants can share their experiences and views on the passage of time. The session on 12 November will allow attendees to design and create their own bookmarks, fostering creativity, fine motor skills, concentration, and manual dexterity. Finally, on 19 November, a dynamic and entertaining activity will challenge participants’ memory and literary knowledge using illustrated cards featuring famous authors and characters from well-known works.
Bedoya emphasised that these sessions aim to provide a space for meeting, learning, and socialising, where literature serves as a tool to keep the mind active, share experiences, and strengthen social connections.
Registration is required as places are limited. Interested individuals can sign up through the usual channels: in person at the municipal facilities located at number 14 in Barrio de La Iglesia, by phone at 942 57 97 73, or via email at bibliotecaliencres@pielagos.es.
