Library celebrates day of libraries with workshops and storytelling

The Rafael Azcona Library in Logroño is celebrating the Day of Libraries with a diverse programme that includes textile screen printing workshops, storytelling sessions, and activities aimed at promoting reading and creativity. The Day of Libraries is observed on 24 October under the slogan 'Without professionals, there are no libraries', which emphasises the vital role of library staff in transforming these spaces into hubs of community engagement, learning, and idea exchange.

Workshops and storytelling sessions

The programme commenced on 22 October with a textile screen printing workshop titled 'I read', aimed at children in the third and fourth years of primary school, running from 17:30 to 19:30. Participants will have the opportunity to print their own garments and explore the creative possibilities of this technique. No prior experience is necessary, as the library will provide materials and tools, although each participant must bring their own items to print.

On 23 October, from 17:30 to 19:00, the workshop will be offered again, this time for adults, allowing them to personalise their clothing in a similar creative manner. On 24 October, from 12:00 to 13:00, storyteller Elia Tralará will present a children's session titled 'Hunger for Stories', aimed at children aged four and above. This engaging presentation will transform stories into food for the imagination, using rhythm, gestures, and humour.

The programme will continue on 31 October, 7 November, and 14 November with the workshop 'Things You Can Do with a Book', led by Javier Sáez Castán, as part of the series 'Reading as a Shared Act'. These sessions, scheduled from 10:30 to 13:30, are intended for individuals over 16 interested in literature, particularly children's and youth literature, as well as families, educators, librarians, and other professionals involved in promoting reading. The workshop encourages participants to explore the physical and creative possibilities of books beyond their textual content.

Registration and additional activities

To facilitate attendance, the library will organise a parallel activity for children aged four to ten. All activities at the Rafael Azcona Library are free, but prior registration is required through the website www.inscripcionesbibliorafaelazcona.es.

In addition to the Day of Libraries events, the Rafael Azcona Library will participate in the first Reading Clubs Meeting in La Rioja, an initiative aimed at bringing together members of reading clubs from various localities in the region. This event will take place on 24 October at the Centre for Rioja Culture (CCR), under the theme 'Shhhhh, we are reading'. The library's involvement highlights the importance of reading clubs as spaces for sharing experiences, exchanging opinions, and enjoying literature together.

The Rafael Azcona Library hosts over 18 reading clubs catering to diverse audiences, including children’s and youth clubs, English language groups, and sessions focused on equality and comics, among others. These sessions are held at various times throughout the day.
