Jornadas Mendocinas return to Guadalajara on 24 and 25 October

The Jornadas Mendocinas will take place on 24 and 25 October in the streets of Guadalajara, organised by the city’s Tourism Department in collaboration with the Association Gentes de Guadalajara. This theatrical tour will highlight the city’s heritage associated with the Mendoza family and serves as a precursor to the XXXVI edition of the Tenorio Mendocino, set to occur the following week.

Víctor Morejón, the city’s Tourism Councillor, emphasised the significance of these events, stating, “This is an annual gathering that attracts more visitors each year and stems from the commitment, theatrical vocation, and affection of the locals for their city’s history. Their involvement has enriched the programming surrounding the Tenorio Mendocino, a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest deeply rooted in Guadalajara.”

Morejón also highlighted the pride in collaborating with the Association Gentes de Guadalajara, noting that their efforts help to bring the legacy of the Mendoza family to life through theatre. “Spaces such as the Palacio del Infantado, the Convento de la Piedad, and the Cripta del Fuerte de San Francisco become stages where performance breathes life into our history and offers a unique way to discover Guadalajara’s heritage,” he added.

The tour will commence at the Plaza de Santa María and will include stops at the Capilla de Luis de Lucena, the Convento de la Piedad, the Palacio de Antonio de Mendoza, and the Palacio del Infantado. On both Saturday 24 and Sunday 25, there will be two performances at 11:30 and 12:30. Continuous performances at the Cripta del Fuerte de San Francisco will run between 12:00 and 14:30, with groups of 25 people allowed access through the main entrance of the Church of the Fuerte de San Francisco.

No prior registration is required for the Jornadas Mendocinas, providing an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to explore Guadalajara, discover its monumental legacy, and relive the stories that are part of the city’s identity through theatre.
