Interacció’26 brings together over 360 cultural professionals in Barcelona to discuss cultural spaces

The Interacció’26 event, hosted by the Diputación de Barcelona, will be held on 29 and 30 October at the Pati Manning, the Teatre del CCCB, and the plaza Joan Coromines. This year's edition, titled "Cultural Spaces," aims to reflect on the role of cultural facilities and public spaces in municipal life.

With 366 registered participants, the programme will explore how spaces influence cultural practices, including who can access them and what conditions are necessary for fostering cultural relationships and activities. Topics will also include the sustainability of cultural facilities, territorial inequalities, forms of participation, and the relationship between culture and urban transformation.

Interacció’26 will gather professionals, public officials, researchers, creators, cultural agents, architects, and urban planners to share experiences and discuss the challenges of local cultural policies.

Programme highlights

The first day, Thursday 29 October, will commence with the discussion "When space becomes culture," featuring Mireia Mascarell, Francesc Muñoz, and Maria Sisternas. Following this, Lia Ghilardi will present a lecture titled "Cultivating regenerative cultural spaces for local vitality," focusing on the role of cultural policies in creating community-linked spaces. This session will be conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation into Catalan.

Another discussion, "Who can inhabit culture?" will include Tania Safura Adam, Judit Carrera, Maria Truñó, and Roger Tudó, addressing access conditions to cultural spaces and how different groups can claim them as their own. The day will conclude with the circus performance "Ákri" by Manel Rosés, which combines acrobatics and a ladder to explore boundaries, transitional spaces, and the concept of belonging.

On Friday 30 October, the conversation "After (de)construction" will feature Ismael Blanco, Jaume Busquets, Marta Combis, Eva Franch, and Mariona Soler, discussing the material, budgetary, professional, and institutional conditions necessary to maintain cultural facilities and ensure their ongoing activity. At 11 am, there will be a guided tour of the temporary pavilion "An improbable shadow," the winning project of the TAC! Festival 2026, led by Mario Corea. This visit will showcase a proposal for ephemeral and reusable architecture that suggests new uses for public space.

The Friday programme will continue with a discussion on the role of culture in territorial transformation, featuring Violeta Campdepadrós, Xènia Gaya, Oriol Lladó, and Pablo Martínez, followed by a final session dedicated to the challenges of local cultural policies.

Since its inception in 1984, the Interacció event has served as a meeting point for public officials, cultural management professionals, creators, researchers, and representatives from the associative sector. Over the years, it has addressed issues related to culture and local policies, facilitating the sharing of experiences and knowledge among various sector agents. In 2026, the Centro de Estudios y Recursos Culturales (CERC) of the Diputación de Barcelona celebrates its 40th anniversary.

The Interacció jornadas align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities. These 17 goals were proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on 25 September 2015 and form part of the global agenda for 2030. The Diputación de Barcelona is committed to supporting local governments in the province in accordance with these SDGs.
