Espacio Joven hosts ‘Huerta Humana’, an exhibition by Emilia Gurau exploring the fragility of the body

The exhibition ‘Huerta Humana’, created by young artist Emilia Gurau, known artistically as ‘Beemy’, is currently on display at Espacio Joven throughout November. The showcase invites viewers to immerse themselves in a creative universe marked by introspection, the vulnerability of the human body, and its relationship with nature.

This exhibition features a selection of works where personal experiences and emotions take centre stage, expressed through a dark, unsettling, and profoundly expressive aesthetic. It delves into themes such as the fragility of existence, death, and the potential for rebirth.

The project stems from a personal experience of the artist, who was hospitalised due to a total paralysis of her body. This pivotal moment in her life prompted deep reflection on the transformation of the body, human vulnerability, and the ability to face new stages in life.

From this experience, Gurau constructs a visual imagery where the organic and the disturbing coexist. She also references an ancient Russian legend that states if blood is spilled on the snow during the winter solstice, new flowers will bloom from the earth. This symbolism serves as a starting point to explore the relationship between life and death, transformation, and rebirth.

Noemí Méndez, the Councillor for Youth, has encouraged citizens to visit Espacio Joven to appreciate the work of this emerging creator and emphasised the importance of providing platforms for new artists.

Emilia Gurau is a self-taught artist who has shown a keen interest in drawing from a young age. Her early works were linked to comic art, character creation, and fan art, through which she began developing her visual language. Currently, she is studying Arts at IES Santa Clara in Santander, and her work has evolved towards increasingly personal and introspective themes, with a style that bridges illustration and painting.

‘Huerta Humana’ marks her first solo exhibition and represents a significant step in the beginning of her artistic journey, allowing the public to discover a selection of works that reflect her creative evolution, concerns, and unique interpretation of reality.

The exhibition will be open until 30 November at Espacio Joven (Cuesta del Hospital, 10), during morning hours from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 14:00, and in the afternoons from Monday to Thursday, 16:00 to 18:00.
