The councillor for Culture, Elena Serrallé, attended a concert by the Municipal Symphonic Band of Albacete, conducted by guest composer Johan de Meij, featuring soloist Tomás Jerez on baritone saxophone. The event included the Spanish premiere of 'Mondriaan, An Essay in Primary Colors', alongside two other works by the Dutch composer, all inspired by painting, colour, and light.
Serrallé highlighted that “our band demonstrates its quality and capacity to face new challenges” and defended the municipal support for a group that “offers high-level proposals and brings music to people of all ages.” She noted that “supporting their growth and work with great artists is providing more cultural opportunities for the people of Albacete.”
The councillor expressed gratitude to Johan de Meij for his participation and acknowledged the international career of Tomás Jerez, a band member since 1994, as well as the efforts of all its teachers and its principal conductor, Luis Miguel Abello.
Furthermore, Serrallé praised the audience's response and their connection with the band, stating that “the affection of the people of Albacete towards their musicians is an encouragement to continue preparing proposals that spark their interest.” She also emphasised that this relationship contributes to making music an integral part of the city's cultural life and encouraged continued enjoyment of the municipal band's programming.
