The Diputación de Palencia paid tribute to the province's oldest women this afternoon with the screening of the documentary 'Centenarias', which highlights the contributions of these women to rural life. Directed by Alberto Arija and funded by the provincial institution, the film premiered at the Cultural Centre at 7 PM.
This screening serves as a focal point for the upcoming Rural Women's Day celebrations, which will take place on 14 October at the Nave de Picos de Alar del Rey. The event aims to raise awareness of the life stories of Palencia's oldest women.
Attending the premiere were the President of the Diputación, Ángeles Armisén, along with Social Area Deputy Juan Antonio Obispo and Deputy for Women and Equality Patricia Pérez. The documentary is part of a series titled 'Mujeres', produced in collaboration with Visual Creative, and aims to recognise and highlight the life experiences of women in rural Palencia from a human and inspiring perspective.
'Centenarias' features the life stories of seven extraordinary women: Carmen Asenjo, Dora Fernández, Carmen García, Juana Blázquez, Ángela Perrote, Trinidad Aláiz (who recently passed away), and a special contribution from Eladia García. The film reflects on their lives as they turn 100, sharing their concerns, memories, emotions, lessons learned, and motivations that continue to shape their daily lives, as well as their relationships with family, community, and society.
The Diputación emphasised that this initiative serves as a tribute to generations of women who have been crucial in preserving the traditions and vitality of rural communities. It also aims to combat loneliness by highlighting their roles as carriers of collective experience.
The auditorium was filled with a dual purpose: to present the documentary that pays heartfelt tribute to these remarkable women and to express institutional gratitude to them as pillars of Palencia society. A special recognition was given to Trinidad Aláiz following her recent passing, with her family present at the event.
In her welcoming address, Armisén remarked, 'In the lives of the women who accompany us today and those featured in this project, there are not just pages of history; there are experiences, resilience, emotions, and challenges faced with admirable fortitude and infinite generosity. They are the foundation that supports entire families filled with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.'
The institutional event for Rural Women's Day will be held on 14 October at 6 PM in the Nave de Picos de Alar del Rey, with a programme to be announced soon, focusing on the province's oldest women.
