The Diputación de Córdoba has unveiled the second edition of ‘Glücksland: Sabor y Herencia Colona’, scheduled for 23 to 25 October in San Sebastián de los Ballesteros. This initiative, organised by the local council, seeks to establish itself as a key event celebrating the heritage of the New Populations, a historical project initiated under King Carlos III.
Félix Romero, the provincial delegate for Economic Development, Promotion and Employment, emphasised the significance of supporting initiatives like ‘Glücksland’, which enable small municipalities to leverage their cultural, gastronomic and heritage resources for economic development and tourism.
San Sebastián de los Ballesteros is closely linked to the New Populations project, which began in 1768 with the settlement of Central European colonists, primarily from Germany. The town continues to honour this heritage through its customs and collective memory.
Key venues for the event will include the Molino del Rey, a site designated as a Cultural Heritage Asset, along with the Plaza del Fuero, La Tahona, and other locations within the town centre.
Among the new features of this edition is a theatrical performance by local residents, depicting episodes related to the arrival of the Central European colonists and the establishment of San Sebastián de los Ballesteros. This initiative aims to engage the community in preserving local memory.
The town of La Carolina will participate as a guest municipality, strengthening ties and cooperation between communities that emerged from the New Populations project, thereby expanding the territorial, cultural, and historical dimensions of Glücksland.
The programme will kick off on Friday, 23 October, with the community theatre performance, children's activities, an official presentation, and a reception for La Carolina, alongside traditional German dances and Oktoberfest-inspired music. On Saturday, attendees can enjoy a variety of activities including a milling breakfast, a German language masterclass, craft workshops, demonstrations of handmade noodle production, a cooking show featuring turkey and noodles, tastings of German baked goods, children's activities, contests, and musical performances. The final day, Sunday, will feature hiking along the German Route, another milling breakfast, a theatrical tourist route through the town, pottery workshops, German beer tastings, a hotdog competition, and various musical offerings until the event concludes.
