Contemporánea Condeduque to host four theatrical premieres at the autumn festival

Contemporánea Condeduque, a cultural venue operated by the Madrid City Council, will showcase four theatrical premieres from 11 November to 5 December as part of the Autumn Festival of the Community of Madrid.

Upcoming productions

  • Deserto by Luiz Felipe Reis (11, 12, and 13 November): This piece, inspired by the works of Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño, intertwines theatre, literature, music, imagery, and performance. The actor Rodrigo Bolzan embodies the multifaceted voice of Bolaño, engaging in a blend of memory and fiction.
  • Mi madre y el dinero by Anacarsis Ramos (17 and 18 November): This work explores the author's journey back to her mother's home in Campeche after a decade apart due to homophobia, violence, and poverty. It seeks to redefine their relationship through a narrative that examines their history and the role of money in their lives.
  • El corazón de Ester by Alberto Cortés (20, 21, and 22 November): This performance reflects on the emotional toll of being observed as an artist. It is inspired by a 19th-century manuscript that reveals the life of a woman named Ester, who becomes consumed by her relationships.
  • Contra Antígona by Andrea Jiménez (26 November to 5 December): This contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Antigone invites 14 audience members each night to participate as a Greek chorus, challenging the traditional narrative and exploring themes of humour, politics, and personal experience.

Andrea Jiménez, known for her innovative approach to classical texts, collaborates with Argentine playwright Victoria Szpunberg, who was awarded the National Prize for Dramatic Literature in 2025. This production continues Jiménez's exploration of participatory theatre, following her acclaimed work, Casting Lear.

The Autumn Festival aims to celebrate diverse artistic expressions, and these premieres at Contemporánea Condeduque promise to engage audiences with thought-provoking narratives and performances.
