After a decade of establishing itself as a key platform for dialogue and knowledge, the Cosmógrafo is set to celebrate its tenth anniversary from 9 November to 3 December. The event aims to reflect on the rapid changes that have shaped the last ten years and to discuss future challenges.
Under the theme ‘Cycles and transformations: How has the world changed in 10 years?’, the programme will tackle issues such as climate emergency, the pandemic, geopolitical shifts, the rise of artificial intelligence, and demographic and urban transformations, featuring expert voices from across the region.
Thematic highlights of the tenth edition
The cycle will offer a series of ten events, starting on 11 November with Professor Marc Alier, who will examine the pace of technological and social change. On 12 November, anthropologist Manuel Delgado will present a lecture titled ‘What do we understand by the far right?’. The programme continues on 13 November with educator and psychologist Montserrat Pedreira discussing changes in education.
On 17 November, Estudio BAILORULL will explore the role of time in architecture and its relationship with landscape. The following day, geographer and climatologist Martí Oliveras will review climate evolution over the past decade. On 19 November, lawyer and MEP Jaume Asens will reflect on the current human rights crisis stemming from the genocide in Palestine. Finally, on 20 November, photographer Joan Fontcuberta will discuss the transition from analogue imagery to digital algorithms.
A highlight of this edition will be the videomapping show ‘Invisible Cities: The heartbeat of Manresa’, set to transform the façade of the Town Hall into a narrative of light, sound, and architecture inspired by Italo Calvino's universe, scheduled for 21 November in the Plaza Mayor.
In addition to the debate sessions, the cycle aims to engage younger generations with technology and thought. On 14 November, the children’s library at Casino will host an immersive virtual reality experience for children aged 8 to 12, with limited spaces requiring prior registration.
The initiative ‘Cosmógrafo in the bookstores’ will maintain cultural ties through three proposals: a reading club discussing the book ‘The Stone Guests’ with Joan Garcia del Muro at MoMa Espai Cultural on 25 November; a talk on the evolution of the publishing world led by Laura Huerga, president of PEN Català, at the Poques Paraules bookstore on 28 November; and the presentation of the book ‘Feeding the Beast: A Young Guide to Confronting Hate Speech’ by Jordi Borràs at Abacus Manresa on 3 December.
All conferences will be streamed live on the Manresa Cultura YouTube channel and later available on the Manresa Ciudad Ágora website.
The Cosmógrafo is organised and coordinated by the Manresa Town Hall, in collaboration with the Philosophy Faculty of Central Catalonia, the Artistic Circle of Manresa, the College of Journalists of Catalonia - Central Catalonia Demarcation, the College of Architects of Central Catalonia, UPC, UManresa, the Poques Paraules bookstore, Abacus, and MoMa Espai Cultural, with support from the Diputación de Barcelona.
