Cirque du Soleil returns to A Coruña with 'OVO', one of its most iconic productions

The mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey, announced today the return of Cirque du Soleil with its acclaimed production 'OVO', set to take place at the Coliseum from 30 December to 3 January. This performance marks a continuation of the strong relationship between the city and one of the world's most prestigious cultural brands.

Tickets for the various sessions are already on sale through Ataquilla and at the box office located in Plaza de Ourense. Created in 2009 and refreshed for its fifteenth anniversary, 'OVO' has captivated over ten million viewers across numerous countries on all five continents.

The production is renowned for its high-level acrobatics, music, humour, and stunning visuals inspired by the world of insects. The narrative unfolds in a vibrant ecosystem where insects engage in work, play, struggle, and love. The arrival of a mysterious egg piques the curiosity of its inhabitants, becoming the central theme of a performance that celebrates biodiversity, transformation, and coexistence.

'OVO' features more than fifty artists from various countries and showcases technically complex acrobatic acts, including parkour, aerial silks, balance, contortion, and trampoline, among other signature Cirque du Soleil disciplines.

During the announcement, Mayor Rey emphasised A Coruña's role as a cultural reference point in the northwest of Spain and the significance of attracting international productions to the city. "Our city has committed to an ambitious and stable programme capable of drawing major cultural, musical, and entertainment events of international stature. We do this because we know that culture not only transforms cities socially, educationally, and creatively but also generates economic activity, boosts tourism, and projects A Coruña's image far beyond our borders," Rey stated, accompanied by Itxaso Barrios, the Marketing Director for International Markets at Cirque du Soleil.

Rey highlighted that hosting major shows is part of a municipal strategy aimed at solidifying the city's position within the main cultural and entertainment circuits. "Today we can proudly say that A Coruña is a city where things happen. A city that is part of the major cultural circuits and increasingly capable of attracting proposals that were once thought to be reserved for large capitals," she remarked.

The mayor also noted the longstanding connection between Cirque du Soleil and the city since its first visit, a relationship built on mutual success and trust. "It is a pleasure to welcome Cirque du Soleil back to A Coruña, a company that has become part of our recent cultural programming and major events history. The announcement of 'OVO' signifies more than just an extraordinary show; it confirms a relationship of trust and shared success that has strengthened year after year," she affirmed.

Rey recalled that the company has always received an outstanding response from the people of A Coruña and Galicia, making the city one of its key venues. "A Coruña will continue to strive to bring the best shows, expand its cultural offerings, and establish itself as a significant cultural reference in the northwest that we are all building together. Because when a city invests in culture, it invests in its future," she concluded.
