The municipal cemeteries in Torrelavega will extend their opening hours in preparation for the all saints' day celebrations, allowing families more time to visit their loved ones. From 28 October to 1 November, the cemeteries will be open from 9:00 to 18:30, two hours longer than the usual hours of 10:00 to 17:30.
Borja Sainz Ahumada, the councillor for cemeteries, explained that this extension is in response to the increased number of visitors during this period. “We want families to have more time to visit and care for the spaces where their loved ones rest,” he stated.
Additionally, the Torrebus Line 3, which services the Río Cabo cemetery, will operate on a weekday schedule during this time.
Musical tribute on all saints' day
As a complementary activity, the eighth edition of 'A Melody for Remembrance' will take place on 1 November, coinciding with all saints' day. This initiative will bring live classical music to the city's cemeteries, providing a comforting atmosphere for those visiting their deceased relatives.
Performances will occur at the cemeteries of Geloria, Río Cabo, Barreda, Sierrapando, Campuzano, and Tanos, in two time slots: from 11:00 to 12:00 at Tanos, Sierrapando, and Barreda, and from 12:00 to 13:00 at Geloria, Río Cabo, and Campuzano. The event will feature professional musicians from the region, including guitarists, flautists, cellists, and violinists, who will perform classical pieces, soundtracks, and melodies designed to inspire remembrance.
The activity is organised in collaboration with Funcantabria. “Once again, we aim to ensure that live music is present in our city's cemeteries on all saints' day, so that those paying tribute to their loved ones feel more accompanied,” emphasised councillor Borja Sainz Ahumada.
