The local council of Camargo has decided to extend the closure period of the swimming pool at the Cros Municipal Sports Complex to carry out more ambitious improvements to the facility. This announcement was made by the Councillor for Sports, María Higuera, who explained that the council aims to take advantage of the ongoing renovations to undertake additional works and complete the upgrades before reopening.
The swimming pool has been closed since September for changing room renovations. During the ongoing works, other needs were identified, prompting the council to address these issues before reopening. The additional improvements will include upgrades to water and electrical systems, repairs for leaks and detachments, and enhancements to the water return circuit for the pool. These additional works will be carried out by the municipal works brigade without increasing the contracted budget.
Higuera stated that the Sports Department has made the decision to maximise the benefits of this closure period so that users can enjoy the facilities as they have not in years. In addition to the originally planned works, improvements will be made to the reception area, the computer cabling will be upgraded, and disinfection efforts will be undertaken.
Furthermore, Higuera indicated that once there is a firm reopening date, users of the Cros Municipal Sports Complex will be informed. She acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the extended closure, particularly for those enrolled in swimming courses, assuring that affected individuals will automatically have a free spot reserved for the next term without needing to re-register.
Higuera expressed gratitude for the users' understanding and reminded them that these improvements are part of a comprehensive renovation of the changing rooms, which includes the replacement of flooring and walls with non-slip safety flooring and vinyl cladding, as well as upgrades to the electrical installation and locker closures. The shower fittings will also be replaced, and the pipes will be integrated into the walls.
Additionally, the renovation will address the two saunas, where wooden cladding, seating, floor grilles, and ceiling structures are being renewed to include insulation. One of the restrooms is being adapted for ostomised individuals through a reconfiguration of space and access, along with upgrades to water and sanitation facilities. The renovation will be completed with new furniture, including treatment tables and chairs designed for individuals with significant support needs.
