The Francisco Sota Municipal Library in Renedo, part of the Piélagos Town Council, will launch bibliotherapy workshops for individuals aged 60 and over next month, in collaboration with the Cultural Association of Women of Piélagos. The initiative, explained by the Councillor for Culture, Carmen Bedoya, will take place over three sessions on Tuesdays: November 3 (Reading club and discussion), November 10 (Creative bookmark workshop), and November 17 (Literary card games), all starting at 11:00 AM.
The primary goal of these workshops is to encourage active ageing, stimulate memory and creativity, and promote social participation through reading and cultural activities. On November 3, the first session will commence with a reading of 'Clara Campoamor. The first vote of women', followed by a participatory discussion on gender equality, addressing topics such as education, employment, opportunities, and rights.
On November 10, participants will have the chance to design and create their own bookmarks, an activity intended to enhance creativity, fine motor skills, concentration, and manual dexterity. The final session on November 17 will feature a dynamic and entertaining proposal where attendees will test their memory and literary knowledge using illustrated cards featuring famous writers and characters from well-known works.
Carmen Bedoya emphasised that these sessions aim to provide a space for meeting, learning, and socialising, where literature serves as a tool to keep the mind active, share experiences, and strengthen social relationships.
The workshops have limited places available and require prior registration, which can be done through the usual channels. Interested individuals can register in person at the municipal facilities located at number 31 of the Llosacampo Building, by phone at 942 07 69 80, or via email at biblioteca@pielagos.com.
