XXV Mercado Medieval to feature music and performances during San Froilán celebrations

The XXV Mercado Medieval will host free activities throughout the day on October 12, featuring a four-and-a-half-meter dragon, craft workshops, children's games, and two nighttime performances. This event is part of the San Froilán festivities in Lugo, which will combine live music, street theater, crafts, workshops, and entertainment for all ages.

The market will open at 10:45 AM, with the presence of Lugo's mayor, Elena Candia, and the Culture Councillor, Javier Vázquez. From early in the day, the sounds of Skaldir, with bagpipes and percussion, along with characters from Human no Limits, will animate the streets and squares of the venue.

One of the main attractions will be El Dragón del Castillo, a fantastic creature approximately four and a half meters long and two and a half meters tall, which will parade through the market at 12:00 PM and 6:30 PM. The program will also include itinerant performances such as La marquesa y su criado, featuring court characters, and Los soldados errantes, with stilt-walking artists, as well as Los hechiceros oscuros and the juggling show Malabares de juglares, showcasing juggling, balancing acts, and circus numbers.

Throughout the day, there will be free workshops on traditional crafts, where attendees can learn and try activities such as archery, heraldry, medieval calligraphy, leatherwork, wood carving, spinning, flower crown making, and chainmail crafting. The family-friendly offerings will include a children's area with traditional games and skill challenges, as well as medieval attractions.

The nighttime program features two performances: at 8:30 PM, El Dios del Fuego will present choreographies depicting the battle between light and darkness. At 9:30 PM, Lume e lapas, by the Trapecio company, will conclude the 25th-anniversary celebration with a show combining fire, aerial circus, trapeze, and acrobatics. The XXV Mercado Medieval will remain open until 10:00 PM in the vicinity of the Cathedral, offering activities for all ages as part of the San Froilán festivities.
