In addition to the community grants, the local government approved funding for municipal assistance programs for school meals, books, and educational materials for the 2026-2027 academic year, totaling €2,283,000. Mayor Caballero noted that the council has provided 3,409 meal vouchers, increasing the monthly amount from €45 to €70 due to rising food costs. This increase represents a 55% rise, or €25 per month, while the regional government has frozen its support.
Furthermore, Caballero emphasized that there are no waiting lists for meal vouchers in Vigo, ensuring that all eligible children receive assistance. The council also approved 1,020 vouchers for books and educational materials, amounting to €102,000.
