s’Abeurador Cultural Center in Santanyí hosts exhibition "Now You Will See Blai Bonet" exploring the poet's dialogue with visual arts

09/10/2026 - The exhibition "Ara veuràs en Blai Bonet" (Now You Will See Blai Bonet) is currently on display at the s’Abeurador Cultural Center in Santanyí, Mallorca. This contemporary art exhibition celebrates the centenary of the poet Blai Bonet and is part of the Year Blai Bonet festivities.

Antònia Roca, the Vice President of the Consell de Mallorca and the Councillor for Culture and Heritage, attended the opening of the exhibition, which aims to highlight the long-standing dialogue between Bonet and various visual artists who were either personally acquainted with him or influenced by his literary works.

The exhibition is organized by the Consell de Mallorca in collaboration with the Fundació Mallorca Literària, the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics, and the Santanyí Town Hall. The title of the exhibition is derived from a line in Bonet's 1979 poetry collection, Cant de l’arc, which is known for its vivid imagery.

Blai Bonet, who was also an editor and wrote catalog texts for artists such as Antoni Tàpies, is recognized for his deep connections with the art world. His poetry is rich with references to painters, sculptors, photographers, and filmmakers.

The exhibition features works from artists who either knew Bonet or read his poetry during his lifetime, including Miquel Barceló, Horacio Sapere, Francisco Bernareggi, Biel March, Toni Catany, Eva Choung-Fux, José Luis González, Tudanca, and Lluís Castaldo. Notable pieces include:

  • A portrait of a young Blai Bonet by Bernareggi (1952), provided by the poet's heirs.
  • Cartell a Blai Bonet by Barceló (1989), created in homage to Bonet.
  • A diptych by Sapere (1985) featuring an image of Bonet's iconic table.
  • A ceramic piece by Castaldo (1978) and Besuch bei Blai Bonet (1983) by Eva Choung-Fux.
  • Works by Rafel Joan and Guillem Nadal, among others.

The exhibition also showcases contemporary artists, both established and emerging, including Júlia Febrer, Cati Julve, Tanit Plana, Albert Pinya, Alicia Kopf, and Claire O’Keefe. Their works engage with Bonet's texts, creating a diverse artistic dialogue that reflects Bonet's belief in the interconnectedness of all art forms.

The exhibition will remain open until November 14 and is part of a broader program celebrating the Year Blai Bonet, themed "A Voice Full of Nests," a line from his poem Soledat oberta. Activities throughout the year include recitals, discussions, concerts, and literary routes, culminating in an official event at the Royal Palace on December 9.
