‘Understanding addiction’ is a series of 12 open meetings organised by ASADI, the Association for the Help of People with Addictions. This initiative, which runs until December, takes place in various venues throughout L'Hospitalet, a city located just southwest of Barcelona, to tackle the disease from a close, preventive, and community-oriented perspective, aiming to break the stigma surrounding it.

“There are many taboos; it is one of the diseases that is most hidden and silent, which makes it more difficult to address properly,” explained Siscu Pahissa, the coordinator of ASADI.

This Thursday, the third talk was held, focusing on the family aspect of addiction. Titled ‘The family facing addiction’, the discussion explored themes such as guilt and overprotection. “The most affected part is often the family, and it is an environment that is frequently overlooked,” Pahissa noted.

The next meeting is scheduled for 28 October at the Bellvitge-Gornal Cultural Centre at 19:30, where the topic will be screens, gambling, and new addictions. Attendance is free and no prior reservation is required.
