Soundset Series returns to Contemporánea Condeduque featuring Carmen Villain, More Eaze, and DJ Plead

On October 9, 2026, the Soundset Series will kick off its programming at Contemporánea Condeduque, a festival dedicated to cutting-edge electronic music. The series will feature performances by Norwegian-Mexican composer and multi-instrumentalist Carmen Villain and American sound artist More Eaze on October 16. Australian DJ Plead will present his new album Please and perform one of his rare live shows on October 30.

Contemporánea Condeduque, part of the Area of Culture, Tourism, and Sports, will host a double concert featuring Carmen Villain and More Eaze on October 16, followed by DJ Plead's performance on October 30. This marks the launch of the Soundset Series, which focuses on experimental electronic music.

Carmen Villain and More Eaze

On October 16, the double bill will showcase Carmen Villain and More Eaze in the auditorium. Carmen Villain (Carmen Maria Hillestad) will primarily present material from her latest album, Memoria. Born in 1983, Villain's work blends the heavy rhythmic pulse of dub with expansive atmospheres reminiscent of Fourth World music. In addition to her albums, she composes for sound installations and contemporary dance, collaborating with choreographer Eszter Salamon and IRCAM in Paris. Her sound continues to evolve through experimentation with dub rhythms, abstract textures, and the sonic possibilities of wind and metal instruments. Her live performances, characterized by dense atmospheres and strong bass, have been featured at notable events such as Berlin Atonal, Dekmantel, Mutek, and the ICA in London.

More Eaze is the project of Brooklyn-based sound artist and multi-instrumentalist Mari Maurice. Her work spans genres from ambient pop to folk and concrete music, intertwining everyday sounds with acoustic and electronic orchestration. Her music explores themes of intimacy, longing, American roots music, and the transformation of abstract feelings into intense experiences, seamlessly navigating between the mundane and the ethereal. In addition to her main project, she has gained recognition as a string arranger, pedal steel performer, and producer, contributing to recent recordings by artists such as Martha Skye Murphy, Water Damage, Lomelda, Fashion Club, Claire Rousay, Space Afrika & Rainy Miller, and Nick Zanca. She frequently performs as part of the duos Pink Must (with Lynn Avery) and whait (with Wendy Eisenberg).

DJ Plead

On October 30, DJ Plead, the Australian artist born Jarred Beeler and based in Melbourne, will take the stage at Soundset Series to present his latest work, Please. Known for his distinctive sound, DJ Plead bridges the physical pressure of bass culture with the complex percussions and melodies of his Lebanese heritage. After gaining international attention with releases on cult labels like Livity Sound and AD93, he released Please in June 2026 through the esteemed Norwegian label Smalltown Supersound. The album has been critically acclaimed as one of the year's standout works and is considered his best to date, showcasing introspective cadences in a downtempo style and weightless rhythms. DJ Plead's performance at Soundset Series will be one of his rare live shows, offering a unique opportunity to experience one of the most innovative musical discourses of the season.
