According to data released by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, the number of contributors to the Social Security system in the Community of Madrid reached 3,927,854 in September. This figure represents an increase of 1.44% compared to August, adding 55,861 contributors. Year-on-year, the region has seen an increase of 148,072 affiliates, marking a growth rate of 3.92% since September 2025.

Since the beginning of the year, there has been a 0.45% rise in affiliation, with 17,187 new contributors. Of the total number of affiliates in the Community of Madrid, 3,476,680 are classified under the General Regime, 447,412 are self-employed, and 3,762 are registered under the Maritime Regime. Additionally, 2,307 belong to the agricultural sector, while 103,704 are in domestic services.

National Overview

On a national level, Social Security affiliation experienced an increase of 92,327 contributors in September, the highest monthly growth for this month since records began. Over the past year, the total number of affiliates rose by 739,888, achieving a year-on-year growth rate of 3.41%. Adjusting for seasonality and calendar effects, the labor market added 108,832 affiliates, bringing the total to 22,480,796. This marks 68 consecutive months of increases, reaching the highest level recorded.

Foreign affiliation has also seen significant growth, with foreigners now accounting for more than 16.2% of total affiliates in Spain. The average number of foreign workers surpassed 3.6 million for the first time, totaling 3,635,979, which is 84,220 more than in August and 547,637 more than a year ago.

Regularization Process

As of September 30, the number of regularized foreign affiliates due to the extraordinary regularization process reached 421,306, an increase of 83,389 since the end of August. The largest groups of regularized affiliates come from Colombia (118,485) and Venezuela (71,999), together accounting for nearly half of the total. Of these, 77.4% (326,256) are classified under the General Regime, while 22,681 (5.4%) are self-employed. In terms of gender, 60.2% are men (253,490) and 39.8% are women (167,815). In the Community of Madrid, there were 80,530 affiliates from the regularization process, representing 19.1% of the total.

Sector Growth

In terms of sector growth, the Construction industry saw the most significant increase over the past year, with a rise of 6.9% in affiliates across both the General Regime and the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers. Other sectors that followed include Real Estate Activities (+5.9%), Artistic, Sports and Entertainment Activities (+5.3%), and Publishing, Broadcasting, and Content Production and Distribution Activities (+4.6%).

Compared to August, the Education sector particularly surged, adding 63,499 affiliates (+5.2% month-on-month). In the General Regime, year-on-year affiliation growth was recorded at 3.67% (668,945). This growth was notably higher in sectors such as Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, and Fishing (+8.6%), Construction (+8.1%), and Artistic, Sports and Entertainment Activities (+5.2%). Meanwhile, the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers saw an annual increase of nearly 2.1%, with the most substantial growth in sectors such as Electricity, Gas, Steam, and Air Conditioning Supply (+15.6%) and Telecommunications, Computer Programming, Consulting, and IT Infrastructure (+14.3%).

Women's Employment

Women’s employment has surpassed 10.5 million this month (10,580,201), reflecting an increase of 345,574 compared to last year and 1,881,872 since 2018. The improvement in female employment since 2018 stands at 21.6%, while male employment has increased by 16.7%. Women now represent 47.2% of the total workforce, a one percentage point increase since 2018, with their presence in the labor market growing at an annual rate of 3.38%. Male employment also reached a record high, with 11,857,352 affiliates, adding 394,314 in the past year and nearly 1.7 million since 2018.

Analysis of employment trends over the past eight years indicates significant growth among younger workers under 30 and those aged 55 and older. Employment for younger individuals has risen by 34.1% since 2021, while the older demographic has seen a 29.2% increase, both exceeding the overall growth rate of 14.9%.
