The Quarts de Teatre festival is set to expand its reach this year, extending its duration to two consecutive days for the first time. Scheduled for 13 and 14 November, the festival will showcase eight short plays along with a dance performance to conclude the event, combining various forms of performing arts, gastronomy, entertainment, and music.
Tickets will go on sale this Wednesday via the festival's official website. The decision to extend the festival follows the successful 2025 edition, which sold out fifteen days prior to the event. With two days of programming, the festival aims to provide more opportunities for audiences to enjoy short theatre and accommodate a larger number of companies while maintaining the intimate nature that fosters close interaction between performers and spectators.
Daniel Recasens, the Councillor for Culture and Linguistic Policy, emphasised the festival's unique contribution to the city's cultural landscape, stating, "Quarts de Teatre is a proposal we value. It offers original theatrical performances in unconventional spaces, with a brief and intimate format that represents a different offering for our city and undoubtedly deserves a prominent place in the cultural programming of Reus."
This year's festival will take place in two iconic venues in Reus: the Teatre Bartrina and the Centre de Lectura. Performances will be held across various spaces within these venues, featuring a diverse array of theatrical styles and languages. The programme is structured into three distinct sessions.
Festival programme highlights
The inaugural session on the afternoon of Friday, 13 November, will feature two short plays: La cervesa de la setmana by Camats and La imatge by La confi. On Saturday, 14 November, the midday session will combine performances of Guardar la roba by Martí Costa and Clara Manyós, and Un món taronja by Dramèdia Teatre, alongside a gastronomic offering and entertainment.
The afternoon session on Saturday will include four plays: L'habitació dels objectes perduts by Neus Soler, El paradís s'ha acabat by Meridiano 70ymedio Teatro, Petit Vermell by the Petit Vermell company, and Ser o no sé by Dos a l'atzar. Audiences will be divided into groups to explore these performances in a theatrical itinerary that allows for the enjoyment of different spaces and theatrical languages.
The festival's varied programming will traverse genres such as comedy, tragicomedy, and clowning, aiming to highlight unique creations and engage new audiences. A jury comprising Georgina Llauradó, an actress from Les Artistes Locals; Neus Ceballos, an actress associated with Bravium Teatre; and Carles Bigorra, an actor from Clownic, has selected the performances for this edition.
The Gastroteatre, an open meeting space, will collaborate with Moments CafèTeatre to offer gastronomic proposals tailored to each session: tapas on Friday evening, vermut on Saturday midday, and a culinary offering on Saturday evening. Access to the Gastroteatre will be free during all three sessions, with consumables priced separately from entry tickets, allowing those who wish to enjoy the atmosphere and complementary activities without attending the short plays.
The Saturday afternoon session will also feature entertainment from actor Xavi Martín Toro as the master of ceremonies, musical sessions by DJ Quarts de Teatre, and the dance performance El gos perdut by Colectivo Elgosperdut from Valls.
Beyond the activities in Reus, Quarts de Teatre aims to continue bringing short theatre to new municipalities through its initiative Quarts de Teatre sobre ruedas, which began in 2025 and has already introduced performances to l'Argentera in Baix Camp and Serra d'Almos in Ribera d'Ebre. This project will continue into 2027, with plans to reach more towns, collaborate with local councils, and transform unique spaces into stages for discovering performing arts from a fresh perspective.
The Quarts de Teatre festival is organised by the Quarts de Teatre association and is supported by the Reus City Council, Reus Cultura, the Teatre Bartrina Consortium, and the Tarragona Provincial Council, with sponsorship from the Fundación Privada Reddis and collaboration from the Centre de Lectura and Moments CafèTeatre.
