The Porriño council has approved a crucial urban planning modification that will facilitate the expansion of the Mosende Social Centre. The decision, made during a council meeting on Monday, allows for a change in land use around the church of Mosende, which had previously been restricted to religious purposes.
This modification is essential for incorporating sociocultural use and moving forward with the tendering process for the construction project, which has been drafted by the council. The planned expansion will take place at the public complex located near the parish church of San Xurxo and the municipal cemetery.
The land was donated to the Porriño council by the San Xurxo Neighbourhood Association and the community of Montes to facilitate the project. The council's approval allows for the expansion of the original building, constructed in 2001, towards its left side, creating a large cultural centre with modern interior spaces and a contemporary exterior.
The proposed extension will connect to the existing building through a glass gallery with a flat roof, aiming to unify the two structures. Additionally, a spacious 272 square metre terrace is planned for outdoor events. The new space will be accessible and designed for community use, featuring a large hall of over 162 square metres equipped with a raised stage, backstage area, adapted restrooms, and storage.
The design of the new structure aims to harmonise with the protected heritage surroundings of the San Xurxo parish church. High-quality traditional materials will be used, including granite stone for the façade, a gabled roof with grey ceramic tiles, and state-of-the-art thermal and acoustic insulation, along with an efficient climate control system using heat pumps.
With the completion of these works and the necessary urban planning procedures, the parish of Mosende will have a renovated, accessible social centre fully equipped to host rehearsals, performances, meetings, and community activities.
