Pamplona invests €45,594 in bertsolarism programme for schools

The local government of Pamplona has allocated €45,594 for the Bertsolaritza Irakaskuntzan – Initiation to Bertsolarism in Education programme, set to run during the 2026-2027 school year. This initiative aims to enhance the creativity of second and third cycle primary school students in public schools that follow the D model of education, which is conducted in the Basque language.

The programme will consist of 416 sessions distributed among 32 groups of students across nine public schools: Amaiur, Bernat Etxepare, Buztintxuri, Elorri, Hegoalde, Mendigoiti, Patxi Larrainzar, Sanduzelai, and San Francisco. Each group will receive a total of 13 sessions during school hours, with the sessions scheduled between September 15, 2026, and June 30, 2027.

The contract for the programme has been awarded to Nafarroako Bertsozale Elkartea, with a maximum price of €109.60 per session. The funding will cover the first 223 sessions from September to December 2026, amounting to €24,440.80, and the remaining 193 sessions from January until the end of the school year, costing €21,152.80.

This educational programme focuses on developing skills such as language correction, public speaking, personal confidence, empathy, and teamwork through the creation of written and improvised bertso (a form of Basque poetic improvisation). The sessions will employ engaging games and practical exercises to convey the principles of bertsolarism and the cultural heritage of Navarra.

Since its inception in 1986, the Bertsolaritza Irakaskuntzan programme has been implemented in collaboration with local governments, educational centres, and the Department of Education of the Government of Navarra. It currently operates in over 70 schools across 52 municipalities in Navarra, involving approximately 3,000 students.
