The Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia (OSG) has announced a new chamber music cycle, titled "From Beethoven to Paquito D'Rivera: Three centuries of music in A Coruña," which will take place at the Afundación headquarters starting 28 October 2026 and running until 16 June 2027. The initiative was presented by Gonzalo Castro, the city’s councillor for culture and tourism, Miguel Ángel Escotet, president of Afundación, and Juan Antonio Cuéllar, manager of the OSG.
This cycle is developed in collaboration with Afundación and aims to support the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL). Attendees are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items at designated containers to assist families in A Coruña facing social exclusion.
During the presentation, Castro highlighted the cultural significance of chamber music and the need for institutions to promote it. He stated, "Chamber music is not a reduced version of symphonic music. It is another way to construct the musical experience, intimate and close to us. Each voice acquires its own presence, allowing us to perceive nuances such as an entry, a breath, or a decision. This proximity demands much from our performers and offers a lot to the listener."
Escotet emphasised the role of music in fostering harmony within society, remarking, "The brain is, in essence, a symphonic organ, and music is its mother tongue. We trust that this chamber cycle between Afundación and the OSG will act like Orpheus's lyre: illuminating reason, pacifying emotions, and providing us with tools for free and critical thought as we continue the endless adventure of learning to be."
The programme, which will feature a concert each month on Wednesdays, includes a variety of performances by artists from different styles and backgrounds, presenting complementary perspectives on chamber music. The full schedule is as follows:
