Musical ‘mamá mía’ pays tribute to mothers at La Lonja in Orihuela

The auditorium of La Lonja in Orihuela will host the musical ‘mamá mía’ on 5 November at 19:30. This performance, presented by Maracaibo Teatro, pays tribute to mothers from various generations through theatre, music, and humour, featuring some of the most iconic songs by ABBA.

The event is organised by the Vice-Rectorate of Culture, Equality, and Diversity of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) and the Orihuela City Council as part of their cultural programme.

‘mamá mía’ combines theatre, music, and humour with a style reminiscent of stand-up comedy. The performance includes renditions of well-known ABBA songs, sung by Emma Torrecillas, and presents a fun and emotional staging that explores the multifaceted nature of motherhood.

The show highlights the role of mothers from various perspectives, encompassing different generations, personal journeys, and diverse understandings of motherhood. It features single mothers, working mothers, housewives, and women with vastly different life experiences, reflecting the joys, struggles, and complexities of motherhood with humour and sensitivity.

Moreover, the performance also considers those who choose not to become mothers, as well as daughters, sons, involved fathers, and men who share family responsibilities. In this way, ‘mamá mía’ invites a reflection on family relationships, care, and the various models of motherhood and cohabitation through humour and music.

The texts and dramaturgy are crafted by Cristina Macià, with a cast that includes Cristina Macià, Marina González, and Juan Carlos García Bernal. Maracaibo Teatro's proposal blends performance, comedy, and music to provide audiences with an engaging and light-hearted perspective on mothers and their role in society.

Admission to the performance is free until the auditorium reaches full capacity.
