The eighth edition of 'Una melodía al recuerdo' will be held on 1 November in six cemeteries in Torrelavega, as announced by Borja Sainz, the councillor for cemeteries. The initiative aims to provide support to families visiting their loved ones on this special day.
The event will take place in the cemeteries of Tanos, Sierrapando, Barreda, Geloria, Río Cabo, and Campuzano, weather permitting. Sainz emphasised that the goal is to make the experience more bearable for those who visit the cemeteries to honour their deceased relatives.
Gonzalo Trugeda from Funcantabria noted that visiting cemeteries is a meaningful way to remember those who have impacted our lives. He explained that the initiative seeks to accompany this moment of remembrance with serenity and respect, as music can often express feelings that are difficult to articulate with words.
Trugeda described the musical performances as a 'discreet and close presence' that integrates into the solemn atmosphere of the cemeteries, specifically designed for the families attending. He expressed gratitude to the Town Hall, the parishes, the musicians, and the Funcantabria team for their collaboration.
Ángela Herrero, the coordinator of the musicians, provided details about the performances, which will occur from 11:00 to 12:00 in Tanos, Sierrapando, and Barreda, and from 12:00 to 13:00 in Geloria, Río Cabo, and Campuzano. The programme will feature solo performances on violin, guitar, flute, cello, and piano, with a repertoire that includes film soundtracks and relaxing classical music, carefully selected to accompany the visits.
'We do not want to be the protagonists; we simply wish to accompany the act,' concluded Herrero, who praised the positive reception of the initiative since its inception.
