The Estepona Town Hall has announced that in celebration of International Flamenco Day, a discussion titled ‘The basic styles of Flamenco’ will take place on Wednesday, 11 November, from 18:30 to 20:00 at the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre. This event commemorates the importance of flamenco, which was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2010.
Organised by the Town Hall in collaboration with the Estepona Flamenco Association ‘El Patio’, the discussion will feature renowned flamencologist Aurelio Gurrea Chalé, professional artists Paco Javier Jimeno, a guitarist, and Ana Fargas, a cantaora (female flamenco singer), along with students from the flamenco singing workshop of the Association.
This educational gathering is designed as a space for explanation and debate, aiming to delve into the roots, present, and future of the ‘jondo’ art form. The primary goal is to disseminate, promote, and share the passion for flamenco from various perspectives: academic, professional, and educational.
Participants will explore the secrets of flamenco rhythms, the genre's evolution, and the importance of preserving this valuable cultural legacy. Aurelio Gurrea Chalé will provide historical insights, analysis, and theoretical context of this universal art form. Paco Javier Jimeno and Ana Fargas will share their experiences on stage, their views on contemporary creation, and their mastery of guitar and singing.
Students from the flamenco singing workshop will represent the new generation, showcasing the importance of the living transmission of this discipline. Throughout the afternoon, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of flamenco dynamics and hear the experiences of the speakers. To connect theory with direct emotion, the artists will perform a brief live interpretation, offering attendees an exclusive glimpse of the power and magic of professional singing and guitar in an intimate setting.
