Daimiel residents in Valencia celebrate traditional brotherhood gathering

The Association of Daimiel Residents in Valencia is set to celebrate its traditional patron saint festivities this weekend, marking nearly four decades of connection for Daimiel natives living in the Valencian capital.

The event will commence at 1:00 PM with a mass and a floral offering at the parish of Jesús Obrero and San Mauro. Following this, at 2:00 PM, a communal meal will take place at the Casa Regional de Murcia and Albacete.

A highlight of the gathering will be the presentation of the 2026 Honorary Member title to José Luis Moreno Maicas, Valencia's Councillor for Culture, Education, Sports, and Fallas. The association has awarded this honour in recognition of his efforts to name a street in Valencia after Las Tablas de Daimiel, a campaign that dates back to 1995, as explained by the association's president, Tarsicio González Molina.

González Molina emphasised the significance of this recognition, stating it ensures the name of Daimiel remains visible in Valencia, extending beyond the association itself. The event will also feature the attendance of Daimiel's mayor, Leopoldo Sierra, whose presence, according to González, signifies strong institutional support and highlights that Daimiel residents living away from their hometown continue to be represented by their local government.

The president noted that this backing has been a consistent feature from various municipal administrations over the association's more than forty-year history. He acknowledged the challenges faced by such organisations in ensuring generational renewal and sustaining their activities, a concern shared by other regional associations.

The association, which is part of the Federation of Regional Houses of Spain and the Federation of Regional Houses of Castilla-La Mancha, remains committed to preserving the presence of Daimiel in Valencia. González Molina encouraged not only Daimiel residents in Valencia but also anyone interested in sharing their Manchego roots to join the organisation. He also expressed gratitude for the support from sister associations in Madrid and Villasar.
