Cebolla (Toledo), October 2, 2026 - The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has inaugurated commemorative events in Toledo province to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Transition to democracy in Spain. The festivities commenced with the exhibition titled La Transición en imágenes: construyendo una nueva realidad en Castilla-La Mancha (1976-2026), which will be open to the public until October 7.
This traveling exhibition is part of over 500 events organized under the program 50 años juntos, which includes 32 major performances, 95 musical events, and nearly 500 recognitions of political figures and civil society groups from the era. Additionally, the program features 16 exhibitions across more than 200 venues, 320 theatrical performances, and five permanent urban art installations.
The exhibition La Transición en imágenes serves as a condensed version of the main exhibit La Transición en Castilla-La Mancha: la construcción de una nueva realidad e identidad (1976-2026). The aim is to highlight the importance of dialogue, coexistence, and the ability to reach agreements, which have been fundamental in shaping Castilla-La Mancha's identity and democratic values.
David Gómez, the regional delegate in Talavera, emphasized the significance of commemorating such a milestone, stating that it is essential to remember the values that underpinned Spain's most significant achievement in recent history, especially in a time when these values are perceived to be under threat. He remarked, “We celebrate dialogue, understanding, and the pursuit of the common good, which allowed for an exemplary Transition.”
Gómez noted the exhibition's engaging format, consisting of 10 large structures with two panels each, showcasing photographs that reflect the regional evolution over the past five decades. He also highlighted the outdoor setting of the exhibition, which aims to engage the entire community of Castilla-La Mancha.
Following this exhibition, municipalities throughout Toledo province will continue to host activities as part of this extensive program, which focuses on dialogue, coexistence, and collective participation. The program will include tributes to those who facilitated democratic change, recognitions of political and social figures, youth activities, and the recovery of local and family memories.
