Barcenilla de Piélagos will host its traditional San Martín festivities on 7, 8 and 11 November. The local councillor for festivities, Gloria Bárcena, and village mayor María Irigoyen presented the festive programme, which includes activities for all ages, combining leisure, children's events, gastronomy, sports, and tradition.
On Saturday, 7 November, from 11:00 to 14:00, there will be an open day for archery at the facilities of the Club Arco Piélagos. At 12:30, the festivities will kick off with a vermouth gathering under a marquee, accompanied by music from DJ Isra and Punto. A communal meal featuring traditional dishes such as cocido montañés, quesada, and té del puerto will be served at 14:00. The programme will continue at 15:30 with a grand bingo event, followed by more archery activities from 16:00 to 19:00. Additionally, at 17:00, children can enjoy a funfair with bouncy castles and cooperative games. From 20:00, music and dancing will return with DJ Isra and Punto, and at 21:00, a chorizo sandwich will be offered to attendees as the festivities continue into the night.
A new addition to this year's programme will be the Schnauzerfest 2026, taking place on Sunday, 8 November, from 10:00 to 12:00. This event will feature a grooming masterclass for Schnauzers led by David García, a trivia quiz about the breed, a health care workshop, and a Schnauzer walk.
The most traditional events will occur on Wednesday, 11 November, the day of San Martín. At 12:00, a solemn mass will be held, accompanied by traditional pipers. Following the mass, there will be a traditional procession, concluding with a communal aperitif.
Councillor Bárcena has invited residents of Piélagos to enjoy these festivities, which not only offer various activities but also foster connections between different towns and their communities. She emphasised that the celebrations are synonymous with fun, participation, and reunion, but above all, they represent a local history and tradition that must be preserved.
Meanwhile, Mayor Irigoyen expressed gratitude for the collaboration of individuals, associations, and local businesses that contribute each year, often anonymously, to the celebration of these events that are integral to the town's history and the municipality. She highlighted the importance of community involvement and commitment to keeping traditions alive while promoting coexistence among residents and intergenerational relationships.
