auditorio alfredo kraus and teatro pérez galdós unveil new season

The Foundation Auditorio y Teatro has announced the upcoming 2025-2026 season for the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus and Teatro Pérez Galdós, under the theme 'De la mano' (Hand in hand), during an event attended by 1,500 people.

Antonio Morales, the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and vice president of the Foundation, emphasised the role of the Cabildo as a cultural engine for the island. He praised the institutional collaboration that positions Gran Canaria as a cultural reference in Spain. 'Two institutions walk hand in hand: the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. Amidst the polarisation that seems to dominate the state political scene, here on this island and in its capital, dialogue, consensus, and a reaffirmation of the will to advance together in the defence of an inclusive cultural model prevail,' Morales stated.

Morales also highlighted the Foundation's significance as a national cultural reference, recalling key events such as the opera season, zarzuela, jazz performances, and the Alfredo Kraus International Singing Competition, which has been revitalised thanks to the Cabildo's support and is included in this year's programming.

A season with a future-oriented vision

The gala featured memorable performances, including Pasión Vega's show 'Pasión Almodóvar', a collaboration between the Perinké Big Band and Rafa Sánchez from La Unión, and a folía by Domingo Rodríguez 'El Colorao' alongside his daughter Julia. Coque Malla also participated in an excerpt from 'The Threepenny Opera', a new co-production directed by Mario Vega.

The Auditorio Alfredo Kraus and Teatro Pérez Galdós invite audiences to experience culture 'De la mano' and 'in 1ª Fila' (in the front row). These concepts embody the essence of the programming, with 'De la mano' symbolising a shared journey alongside the audience, celebrating every applause and emotion. '1ª Fila' represents more than just a seat; it offers an intimate cultural experience, allowing active participation in creative processes, dialogues with artists, and experiences that extend beyond the stage through meetings and rehearsals with the public.

A hub for significant cultural activities

The Auditorio Alfredo Kraus and Teatro Pérez Galdós also host other prominent cultural entities that hold their seasons in these venues. The Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Karen Mark Chichón, will commence its season on 19 September with a programme titled 'En torno a Carmen', celebrating the 150th anniversary of Georges Bizet's iconic opera. Other upcoming events include concerts for the 180th Anniversary of the Philharmonic Society of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the 42nd International Music Festival of the Canary Islands, and the inauguration of the 33rd Zarzuela Season of the Canary Islands.

The season promises a rich array of cultural experiences, reinforcing Gran Canaria's status as a vibrant cultural destination.
