The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, emphasised the positive trajectory of the camping sector in Galicia, which boasts over 37,500 pitches across 184 establishments, during his speech at the National Camping Congress of Spain held in Baiona.
Rueda pointed out that these facilities enable visitors to enjoy the region’s natural beauty, landscapes, gastronomy, and tranquillity, stating they are integral to the future of the ‘Galicia Calidade’ brand. He highlighted that among the nearly nine million tourists who visited Galicia in 2025, approximately 400,000 opted for camping accommodations, representing a 74% increase from ten years prior.
The positive trend continues into 2026, with over 350,000 tourists and 1.3 million overnight stays recorded in the region’s campsites. Rueda described this as a “fantastic moment” for the Galician tourism sector, noting the good prospects ahead.
He underscored the role of campsites in stimulating the local economy, retaining population, creating quality jobs, and promoting the desegmentation of tourism. Rueda also acknowledged the importance of collaboration with the tourism sector, thanking them for their efforts to provide high-quality experiences for increasingly discerning visitors. He encouraged continued progress as Galicia approaches the Xacobeo 2027, which he anticipates will be “the great year for Galicia.”
