Albacete promotes its tourism offerings in the British market

The province of Albacete is enhancing its international tourism strategy by promoting its offerings in the British market through a new promotional initiative in London, in collaboration with the government of Castilla-La Mancha and the Albacete Provincial Council. This initiative continues the ongoing efforts by both institutions to strengthen Albacete's positioning and expand its presence in international markets, recognising the significant contribution of foreign tourists to overall spending and average stay durations, which are notably higher than those of domestic tourists.

To showcase the diversity of resources, experiences, and opportunities available in the region to European markets, a delegation travelled to the British capital, including Pedro Antonio Ruiz Santos, the regional delegate in Albacete, Arancha Pérez Gil, the General Director of Tourism, and Raquel Ruiz, the provincial deputy in charge of tourism. They were joined by Patricia Pérez, the managing director of Eturia C-LM.

The Albacete delegation presented a range of offerings at the World Trade Market (WTM), combining historical and cultural heritage, popular traditions and festivals, nature, gastronomy, active tourism, and experiences related to enjoying the territory. International media attending the presentation at the Turespaña stand were introduced to environmental resources such as the Vía Verde del Renacimiento, the network of natural parks, and notable destinations like Alcalá del Júcar and the source of the Río Mundo.

The delegation also highlighted the significance of local festivals, which have become a legacy and symbol of identity for the region. Among the most prominent are the Albacete Fair, the Holy Week of Hellín, and the Battle of Almansa, all recognised as Festivals of International Tourist Interest, alongside the Holy Week of Tobarra and the Sawdust Carpets of Elche de la Sierra, which are actively seeking similar recognition.

Furthermore, Albacete is unique in being the only province in the world with all its regions certified as Starlight Tourist Destinations, an international recognition achieved in 2024 that attests to the quality of its night skies and the region's commitment to their preservation.

Arancha Pérez Gil, the General Director of Tourism, has embarked on a journey through the five provinces of Castilla-La Mancha, stopping in Albacete, where she noted the intersection of tradition and nature, mentioning events like the Fair, the sawdust carpets, and natural resources such as the Río Mundo. She also praised the region's culinary delights, highlighting local wine and Manchego cheese, asserting that “authenticity” is the common thread that connects the diverse offerings across the provinces.

Last year, Castilla-La Mancha welcomed three million visitors, resulting in six million overnight stays, figures that reflect the region's appeal as not just a place to visit but a land to be discovered and experienced. Pérez Gil emphasised that it is a “perfect destination” where tradition coexists with creativity and innovation, inviting attendees to savour and explore a “modern, dynamic territory located near Madrid.”
