The theatrical company Abubukaka is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a series of events that showcase its unique brand of humour and creativity. Throughout November 2026, the La Laguna-based company will host a special programme featuring performances in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, the launch of the book ‘No somos nadie pero ustedes tampoco (20 años de Abubukaka)’, and an exhibition opening on 23 November, the exact date of their anniversary.
Founded in 2006 by Carlos Pedrós, Amanhuy Cala, Víctor Hubara, and Diego Lupiáñez, Abubukaka has created a universe of sketches, characters, and absurd situations that have entertained audiences across the Canary Islands and parts of mainland Spain. The company averages 60 performances per season, attracting approximately 25,000 spectators. In addition, they boast a community of over 200,000 followers on social media, where their audiovisual creations garner around five million views annually.
Celebratory performances
The Teatro Leal in La Laguna will host the premiere of the commemorative performance ‘20 años de Abubukaka’. This show will have four performances on 2, 3, 9, and 10 November, followed by two additional shows on 12 and 13 November at the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The performance promises a chaotic and humorous journey through the company’s two decades, revisiting beloved sketches, characters, and the irreverent style that has defined their work.
Book launch
On 18 November, the Fundación CajaCanarias will host the launch of ‘No somos nadie pero ustedes tampoco (20 años de Abubukaka)’, a book written by Paco Sánchez and designed by Rayo 52. This publication includes images, anecdotes, and essential information to understand the organic nature of Abubukaka and its 20-year history. The launch will feature members of the company and others who have contributed to both the book’s publication and the group’s journey, along with a Q&A session, book signing, and surprises.
Exhibition to celebrate the anniversary
On 23 November, coinciding with their anniversary, the exhibition ‘20 años’ will open at the Abubukaka shop located at Calle Heraclio Sánchez, 27, in La Laguna. The exhibition will showcase objects, clothing, and fragments of foundational manifestos from the company, providing the public with insights into their history through items that have accompanied their journey. The inauguration will include book sales and signings, a lavish cocktail, and other surprises.
In addition to their stage and audiovisual activities, Abubukaka maintains a regular presence in the media, collaborating several times a week with Radio Club Tenerife and participating in the Friday programme ‘Hay que verlo’ on RTVC, where they have their own humour segment. Through this programme, Abubukaka invites the public to celebrate 20 years of irreverent humour and reconnect with the stories, characters, and individuals that have made their journey possible.
