Xunta strengthens business ties with Mexico to boost investment opportunities

The regional minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, held a meeting in Santiago to analyse the business and trade relations between Galicia and Mexico. The discussion included the new honorary consul, Alfonso Pereira, and representatives from the Igape's office in Mexico.

During the meeting, they explored potential avenues for economic collaboration and investment opportunities for both economies. Mexico has emerged as a significant market for Galicia, with Galician exports totalling €324 million last year. Key sectors contributing to this figure include automotive, textiles, agri-food, and metalworking.

In 2025, the number of Galician companies exporting to Mexico rose to 409. Lorenzana outlined the primary objectives of the Xunta's economic and industrial policy, which aims to strengthen the internationalisation of the Galician economy by promoting both exports and foreign investment in the region.

She also presented the work of the Economic Office of Galicia, which acts as a facilitator in identifying projects of interest for the Galician industry and providing necessary administrative support for their implementation.

Finally, Lorenzana reaffirmed the Galician Government's commitment to supporting local businesses in expanding their presence in international markets and enhancing their export capacity, as exports from the region approached €31 billion last year.
