On October 8, 2026, the Secretary General of Emigration, Antonio Rodríguez Miranda, and the Commissioner of Xacobeo 2027, Marcos Gómez Román, joined Elvira Domínguez, the Xunta delegate in Uruguay, in floral tributes at the monuments of Isabel La Católica and José Gervasio Artigas. These ceremonies aimed to express respect and the commitment to keep alive the historical connections between Spain and Uruguay.
During the events, representatives of the Galician government highlighted the importance of preserving and strengthening the ties between the two brother nations, as well as the role Galicia has played and continues to play as an essential part of the Spanish presence in Uruguay. They emphasized the value of Galician emigration as a unifying element between both societies.
The tribute at the Isabel La Católica monument took place in Plaza de España, where the statue was inaugurated in 1985 as a symbol of the brotherhood between the two peoples. Meanwhile, the homage to José Gervasio Artigas occurred in Plaza de la Independencia, where his mausoleum is located, recognizing the central figure in Uruguay's history.
