On October 2, 2026, the mayor of Vigo unveiled the 27th edition of the Theater Contest, an initiative organized by the Group of Sports and Cultural Centers of Vigo, which is backed by the local government.
The Theater Contest, part of the municipal program "Vente con Nós," will feature nine theatrical performances across various cultural centers in the city. From October 4 to November 8, more than 100 non-professional actors and actresses will participate in a diverse program that includes comedies, dramas, and contemporary pieces.
During the presentation event, the mayor was joined by the Councilor for Culture, Gorka Gómez; the president of the Group of Sports and Cultural Centers of Vigo, Marcos Castro; and representatives from various local associations, including CRAC de Coruxo, CC Helios de Bembrive, CC de Matamá, CC de Valladares, AVV de Sárdoma, and AVV Santa Mariña de Cabral. The mayor expressed a commitment to decentralizing performances to enhance the role of these community associations.
Marcos Castro emphasized the importance of bringing theater to areas that typically lack such cultural offerings. He also thanked the city council for its support of the initiative and highlighted that the contest is free for the public.
The city council's commitment to amateur theater is further demonstrated by the announcement of a budget allocation of €50,000 for the Amateur Theater Group of Vigo.
