On October 5, 2026, Abel Caballero, the mayor of Vigo, announced the approval of a project aimed at improving the second floor of the Casa das Artes museum. This initiative involves an investment of approximately €80,000, which is designated for the maintenance and enhancement of the exhibition spaces.
The renovation will allow for the permanent installation of the art collection by Manuel Colmeiro, a prominent figure in Galician art, thus strengthening the municipal network of museums. Caballero emphasized the importance of providing a stable space for what he described as “one of the great painters in the history of Galicia,” framing this initiative within the city’s commitment to cultural support: “In Vigo, cultural initiatives are receiving more support than ever in history.”
In addition to the museum project, the city council has allocated €191,000 for the renovation of the closures around the tennis courts and is set to tender nearly €800,000 for a comprehensive improvement of the Samil football field. This project aims to fully renovate the closures and nets of the tennis courts, install new access gates, and construct a new wall.
The football field improvements will include the installation of new synthetic grass, the renewal of the stormwater drainage system with a rainwater harvesting system, new sanitation, and a complete overhaul of the lighting. A new closure will also be built along the entire boundary of the field adjacent to the Lagares River.
Caballero highlighted that these projects represent a municipal investment of around €1 million to revitalize the entire sports area of Samil, encompassing both the tennis courts and the football field.
