Mayor Abel Caballero emphasised the significant contributions of small and medium enterprises in fostering a vibrant city during the launch of the 'Vigo Comercio vivo' programme. He reiterated the city council's commitment to initiatives aimed at enhancing and promoting local commercial activities.

“We will continue to fight every day to support local commerce,” Caballero stated. He praised José García Costas, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Vigo, Vilagarcía and Arousa, for his involvement in various city activities, including those promoted by the Zona Franca and efforts to sustain local businesses.

“Local commerce is the lifeblood of every area in the city,”

the mayor added, highlighting both the economic and social importance of these establishments. Caballero advocated for competing with online sales platforms by introducing attractive initiatives for citizens, such as musical performances to enhance the shopping experience and training for sector workers to boost online sales.

The initiative will take place during October and November in Teis, the city centre, and the Náutico area, aiming to engage over 130 establishments through a series of free activities designed to improve visibility, promote digital transformation, and stimulate commercial activity in the streets and markets of Vigo.

One of the programme's key focuses will be enhancing the digital and commercial skills of participating businesses. Practical and free workshops will be offered on topics such as window dressing, promotional material design using Canva, photography and video techniques with mobile phones, and the application of artificial intelligence in commerce.

Additionally, participating shops will benefit from the creation of professional audiovisual content, including photographs and videos of their establishments, which they can subsequently use across their communication channels and social media platforms.
