Tarragona's half marathon and 10K celebrates 35th edition with 1,700 participants

The 35th edition of the Mitja Marató + 10K Ciutat de Tarragona is set to fill the city's streets with runners this Sunday. This year, the event has expanded its capacity, offering 1,700 places—100 more than last year—which have all been sold out.

Organised by Tarragona Esports, the race has become one of the city's most emblematic and well-attended sporting events. Mario Soler, the city’s councillor for Sports and Sports Tourism, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, "The Mitja Marató + 10K Ciutat de Tarragona is one of the most iconic, traditional, and participative sporting events in our city." He added, "Behind each of the 1,700 bib numbers is a story, a personal challenge, countless hours of training, and the excitement of being part of a great sporting day."

This year's celebration is particularly special as it recognises the loyalty and journey of participants. Four runners who have completed all 35 editions of the Mitja Marató will be publicly acknowledged, marking their long-standing connection to this prestigious event.

The two races will maintain the same route as in previous years, starting at 9 am from Calle Torres Jordi, near the municipal swimming pool and the Part Baixa and El Serrallo pavilion. The half marathon will consist of two laps through iconic streets and squares of Tarragona, including Plaza Imperial Tàrraco, Rambla Nova, UNESCO Square, and Via Augusta. The route will also pass through the Vall de l’Arrabassada and along the Rafael Casanova promenade, reaching the Levante dock before returning to Muelle de Costa. The 10K race will follow the same circuit but will complete only one lap, excluding the section along the promenade.

After the races, the awards ceremony for the 10K will take place at 10.30 am, followed by the half marathon awards at 11.30 am. Participants will receive a commemorative technical T-shirt from Tarragona Esports.

This year marks the fourth consecutive year that Carburos Metálicos, a leading company in the industrial and medicinal gases sector in Spain and part of the Air Products group, has been the main sponsor of the Mitja Marató + 10K Ciutat de Tarragona. The event also enjoys sponsorship from CaixaBank and Viamed, alongside collaboration from Civil Protection, volunteers from Apifv, Bonpreu-Esclat, Coca-Cola, Ruzafa, Automático Tarraco, the Port of Tarragona, Port Tarraco, Grupo Nima Automoción, Return to Play, AlimenTalent, Club Bike Ghost Riders, the Port neighbourhood association, Club Tenis Tarragona, and Club Atletismo Tarragona, with around 150 volunteers participating.

Through a mobile application, both participants and the general public will be able to follow the progress of the two races in real time. Further information about the event can be found on the official website of the Mitja Marató + 10K Ciutat de Tarragona.
