A total of 155 cultural proposals from the canary islands, carried out during the second half of 2025 and the first half of 2026, have been awarded subsidies aimed at small and medium-sized projects. The General Directorate of Cultural Innovation and Creative Industries of the Government of the Canary Islands has published the final resolution granting funding for these activities organised by professionals, companies, and entities across the islands, with a total budget of €1.6 million.
These projects were evaluated by an assigned expert committee from among the 192 applications submitted for these grants. A list of the proposals receiving support can be consulted on the notice board of the Ministry of Universities, Science, and Innovation and Culture. The information is also available in the calls section of the ICDC website, a public entity collaborating in this process, where the necessary documentation for justification can also be found.
The deadline for justifying these subsidies will be thirty working days from the day following the publication of the resolution for projects completed in the second half of 2025, and until 30 October 2026 for projects executed in the first half of this year. The payment of the subsidy will be made upon justification, so it is recommended to submit this as soon as possible through the corresponding documentation. This process must be carried out via the Electronic Headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands.
These activities are related to the performing and musical arts (dance, theatre, circus arts, and music); literature (narrative, poetry, essays, drama, and oral storytelling); or comics (graphic novels and comics). All projects are classified as small or medium-sized, meaning they have a total budget of less than €100,000, as stipulated in the call, and were held in the canary islands in either in-person, virtual, or hybrid formats, with audience attendance in all cases.
In the coming days, the selection for large-format projects will be announced. Of the 155 projects approved in this resolution, 134 are related to the performing arts and music, while the remaining 21 pertain to literature initiatives. In the performing and musical arts category, there are artistic residencies in performance spaces; comprehensive exhibition projects in private venues; festivals, showcases, conferences, markets, professional sector meetings, and other similar cultural events related to dance, theatre, circus arts, and music. In the literature category, activities include promotion and dissemination; reading promotion and encouragement; meetings, dialogue tables, and debates; storytelling, oral narration, and dramatized readings. Additionally, there are festivals, showcases, conferences, markets, educational activities, professional sector meetings, seminars, exhibitions, and actions aimed at promoting canary literature, along with other similar cultural events in this field.
