The Torrevieja Town Hall has completed renovation works on the outdoor sports facilities in La Mata, Cabo Cervera and Los Balcones, which are now open for public use following an investment of €640,211. This initiative provides residents with upgraded facilities that are safer and more accessible, aimed at promoting sports and healthy leisure activities.
The project, carried out by the construction company Construcciones Hermanos Espín S.L., included the refurbishment of the multi-sport court in La Mata, located in the Perfecta Rodríguez park, the sports facility in Cabo Cervera, and the sports installations in Los Balcones, near Reina de la Sal. The renovation addressed the wear and tear accumulated over time and improved the usability of these spaces.
Key improvements included the renewal of playing surfaces, the application of non-slip sports paint with regulatory markings, and the replacement of damaged fencing and enclosures. Additionally, deteriorated elements such as perimeter walls, pavements, and grandstands were removed, and access points were upgraded to enhance accessibility.
The lighting has also been modernised with the installation of LED sports projectors, allowing for night-time use of the facilities while reducing energy consumption.
Diana Box, the Councillor for Sports, remarked, “The reopening of these three facilities represents a significant improvement for the residents of La Mata, Cabo Cervera and Los Balcones. With this investment of over €640,000, we are providing them with renovated, safer and more accessible spaces for enjoying sports close to home.”
She added, “The Sports Department continues to work on addressing the needs of municipal facilities and bringing physical activity to all neighbourhoods. These courts also serve as places for community interaction, where children, young people and adults can share their leisure time and adopt healthy habits.”
